Dinner At Tiffany’s.

Last night I went to a truly fabulous party hosted by Vogue and Tiffany & Co.

My job has afforded me many lovely times over the years but last night’s Tiffany & Co dinner to celebrate the The Great Gatsby was as chic as it gets.

Set amongst hundreds of white flowers at Neil Perry’s Rockpool Bar & Grill, with almost the entire cast and Mr & Mrs Luhrmann in attendance, we dined on a 1920′s inspired menu and were serenaded with a very Bazmarked version of Soft Cell’s ‘Tainted Love’.

I didn’t want it to end.

A few words on the film. I saw it on Wednesday night and I loved it. Not a little bit. A lot.

I’m a mad fan of the book – it’s very dear to me – so I’m protective of its prose and message. Baz Luhrmann has created the most gorgeous, layered depiction of Fitzgerald’s classic tale with all the twists and quirks that make him one of our greatest directors. Catherine Martin’s costumes and art direction is phenomenal. Leonardo DiCaprio is so beautiful it’s alarming.

The fact that this film was made in Australia should make us all proud. Extraordinary. Truly. And the Jay-Z soundtrack is a download must.

Forget what you’ve heard and dive in.

The Night In Pictures.

I told Ricky that I loved him. Like a twelve year old might talk to Harry Styles. But I do. Love him.

Look at the jewels….

Next week Tiffany & Co will open an in-store exhibition showcasing the jewellery from the film as well as archival sketches and fashion images from the 1920’s. The exhibition features the Daisy Heart Locket inspired by the opulence of the Jazz Age; the Daisy Hand Ornament crafted from diamonds and pearls and the Savoy Headpiece a $US200,000 crown based on a Native American headdress.

I wore a Toni Maticevski organza gown with Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket, Saint Laurent shoes and vintage bracelets.

Your hair looks great that. I am so, so hanging to see the movie… Thanks for your review. I read a Guardian review of it where the writer kept going on about it lacking the nuances of the novel… I don’t think he/she understands Baz Luhrmann’s style? Nuance is so NOT the point.

I’d love to see your gown without the jacket!! :)

Wow! You are a very lucky girl! What an amazing night and you looked absolutely beautiful Paula! Thanks for sharing with us.

I love your outfit Paula-very slight hint of 20s without being cliched or too fashiony. Chic, elegant and individual. And yes I agree re your hair-gorgeous. The table setting looks divine. I have to say I’m sceptical about the movie-but it looks like it will be a visual and stylistic spectacular-so I’ll give it a red hot go and ignore the nay saying voices in my head! And yes- DiCaprio is reason enough to see it.
