The glorious ballroom of Claridge’s was transformed into a garden complete with pastel-coloured gnomes, Astroturf and garlands of spring flowers for Mulberry’s Spring/Summer 2013 show. Guests including Kate Moss and Lana Del Ray sipped on bottles of organic (made for Mulberry) pear and lychee juice and boxed slices of possibly the prettiest and most delicious cake I’ve ever eaten.
The very British brand chose this very British venue to debut a collection that echoed the brand’s younger heritage. There was a distinct 70s silhouette – flared trousers, cropped jackets, chain handbag straps – that was cleverly juxtaposed with English rural influences and prints.
The colour palette drew influence from the classic school-uniform neutrals of navy, brown and black with pops of pale green, berry, mint and apricot. Highlights were high-waisted, beautifully tailored pants in leather, linen and jacquard and long, maxi dresses in silk print with scooped backs.
In accessories, the brand maintained its ‘It Bag’ status with the introduction the Willow Tote which features the signature Mulberry postman’s lock, zips and padlock fob.
Pretty hair, pretty make-up and a grey poodle on the runway: this was London style that made you want to go shopping.
