Kate Ritchie looked beautiful on Sunday night -grown-up, understated, sexy – one of my favourite frocks.
Kate’s no stranger to the Logies – she has two Gold’s on her mantle piece – and has won best dressed more than a few times as well. Here, Kate takes us behind-the-scenes on how she picks the perfect dress and what songs she listens to as she get ready.
Talk us through how you chose your Logies dress.
Steven Khalil and I spoke a long time ago about him dressing me for the Logies but it was only a month ago that he politely reminded me it wasn’t very far away and I should really be finding some time to come in and see him! I find my gowns are never what I had first thought they would be, it is so exciting to see them come together and this time, to see Steven do what he does best: create exquisite gowns. I’d like to say that I “chose” my Logies dress but really… I chose Steven and the rest just evolved.
Are there certain details or designers you look for when it comes to picking a Logies gown?
For quite a few years now I have been lucky enough to have all of my gowns custom made which is something I certainly look for now. I have really enjoyed working with designers who include you in the creative process. Me trusting their knowledge, style and creativity and them trusting that I know my body better than anyone else! I am always drawn to classic glamour when it comes to red carpet gowns. It’s where I feel most comfortable and confident.
Did you use a stylist? Why? Why not?
No, not a ‘stylist’ as such this year. More, a great team of stylish people helping me pull it all together! It’s always more time consuming being more involved but this way I do feel like I am truly ‘me’ out there on the red carpet. Whether people approve or not! (Pictured below: Lilly Miljkovic & Steven Khalil with Kate).
How did you decide on your hair and makeup?
With the help of friend and makeup/hair stylist Lilly Miljkovic who is a fountain of ideas and always has her finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest looks and trends. I trust her completely and she makes it all so girly and fun, which I love!
What’s your ‘getting ready for the Logies’ routine?
In the old days I didn’t worry too much about a good sleep the night before but now it is integral. A trip to the hotel gym and an adequate breakfast on the morning of, followed by a long shower and a full body moisturise. Then, it’s hours in the chair, a cheeky glass of champagne and a last minute panic to get in the frock and out the door on time.
Do you listen to music as you get ready? What’s on your playlist?
This year there’ll be Lana Del Ray, Kimbra and some new Madonna as well as my old faves like JLo, John Legend and Jay Z. In no particular order. Oh, and Diana Ross!
Do you indulge in any pre-Logies pampering, like a mani, massage or facial?
All of the above! I tend to up the anti with facials in the lead up to the Logies, making sure I have enough time for my skin to recover incase of any unwanted breakouts that are sometimes inevitable. I think hydrated, glowing skin is an important element to looking your best. On your face and body. And despite the fact that no one will probably even catch a glimpse of my feet (and fabulous shoes!) I will be off to bed the night before with my feet lathered in Vaseline cocoa butter and wrapped up in bed socks. Not particularly sexy but a great way to nourish and compliment a fresh mani/pedi. This year I will be opting for a natural varnish with something like OPIs Samoan Sand.
What’s your favourite thing about the Logies?
Seeing so many faces that I rarely have the chance to catch up with. And, the opportunity to pretend that our industry is actually really glamorous. Even if it’s only for a fleeting moment!
